The Sixth Station: Jesus is Scourged and Crowned with Thorns

John 19:1-3

Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged. And the soldiers wove a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and they dressed him in a purple robe. They kept coming up to him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and striking him on the face.

“We are horrified when we think of what was done to Jesus. But are we equally horrified when this is done to others? … These atrocities are practiced in the world today, in prisons, interrogation centers, among governments … we must not look away.”
– Megan McKenna, The New Stations of the Cross, p. 44

Lord, help us to remember the pain that you endured out of love for us. Help us to also remember the pain of our world, and be mindful of the ways in which your love can pour from our hearts into this dry land. Amen.
