Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
As a teenage boy in the late 4th century, Patrick was captured and taken into slavery in Ireland. Though this was a time of hardship, Patrick wrote in his work “The Confession” that these were among the most spiritually formative years of his life. When he was twenty, God revealed to Patrick in a dream how he might escape from his captors. After escaping home to Britain, he began studying Christianity and was ordained to the priesthood. Patrick eventually had another dream in which God told him to return to Ireland to minister there, and he responded to the call by spending forty years in Ireland, living in poverty and proclaiming the gospel.
Fun fact: Legend has it that the shamrock was a tool St. Patrick used to teach the concept of the Trinity.
