The Ninth Station: Jesus Encounters the Women of Jerusalem

Luke 23:27 — A great crowd of people followed him, including women who were mourning and lamenting for him. But turning to them, Jesus said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.”

“Jesus tells us to weep not for him, but for ourselves and what we continue to do to each other and how we put the children of the world in jeopardy…. [I]t is time to stop our weeping and move, do something that will convert our lives and transform the lives of those who come after us…. Jesus teach us how to weep and lament as you did…whenever we weep, let the tears wash clear our eyes and stir us to ‘make justice roll like a river’ for the children and those who come after us in faith. Amen.”
